beginning at [the END]

Soooooo, this post actually marks what feels like the decisive end of my summer… weird right? I am more than knee deep in this semester at the Academy and for some reason there was this dangling strip of summer that was still active.

 let us rewind a bit.

{ok so the dangling bit was partially this post. the sad part is this blog post has ben sitting on my blackberry for about month or so and i am JUST now getting to type it up!} -My sincerest apologies i promised pictures, updates, and posts and skimped terribly! Charge it to my head not my heart!

ANNNNYWHO.

the [original] post discussed the different nyc spots, shows, museums, etc. that I visited throughout the summer but we are just gonna get straight to the ART making!

It is easy to say that the most fulfilling and eventful part of my summer was working with one of the Post-Graduate fellows Aliene DeSouza Howell at the New York Academy of Art. [In my opinion, there are not many artist utilize printmaking as their main medium of choice. It is often treated much like drawing. A means to an end. So, to meet an artist who was using printmaking as their main medium AND creating captivating images was a pretty fricking awesome!]

Throughout the school year, I would peer into her studio curious of the project that she was embarking upon and the huge prints that were in process. Surely it was annoy.  Asking too many questions and hanging around a bit much but there was an incredible desire to learn as much as possible and I was in awe with the scale of her prints and her imagery.

When the opportunity presented itself to assist I leaped at the opportunity.

During the school year we printed Ursa Major Lost at Sea  by hand and afterwards I was hooked!

It was inspiring to work with someone who was just as passionate about printmaking and see them really attempting to push the medium to its limits. Being able to help her put the wheels in motion and bring her vision to life was also a thrilling endeavor.

Here are few images from the show and a shot of the full instillation

FULL shot in Wilkinson Hall

that wall was huge

Each week, I watched her bring in new ideas, more prints, address different challenges, more prints, changing insight, and even more prints. Plus a few drawings. Just endless creativity and problem solving!

On some days, the printing was amazing. Other days… I wanted to cursed the ones who invented linocuts and hand printing. However, the working knowledge gained made every moment worth it.

At this moment, I need to stop AND take a moment and properly Shout Out ALL the Fellows. Because The exhibition …..was …….Extraordinary.

and

Mr. Ian Healy

SOO that bring us Full circle back to NOW! and Post-Natural has been deinstalled.

The deforestation of the Tomorrow Forest Instillation…[too cheesy?…maybe..yes]

And we here we are again at a beginning at the End.

It was sad to see the bare wall, but I am more excited to think about what will spring up next. I dunno about you but I think the she is just getting started.

Hopefully, some of her ambition, focus of vision, and creativity rubbed off on me this summer!

UNTIL next time!
